I am a Principal Lecturer in Education Studies, working in the Education, Childhood, and Communities subject area within the School of Education, Liverpool John Moores University.

I lead the BA (Hons) Education and Primary Studies programme, and have broad teaching interests at the intersections of philosophy of education and educational theory, sociology of education, and cultural studies. I currently act as external examiner for three undergraduate programmes: 

• Bachelor of Religious Education, Dublin City University.
• BA (Hons) Education, University of Lincoln. 
• MSc. Education Studies, University of Strathclyde. 

My research is largely theoretical in orientation, focusing on the connections between religion, gender, sexuality, and education. This work has been interdisciplinary in orientation, bringing insights from philosophy of education, queer theory, queer theology, and religious studies. 

More recently, my research has also explored the pedagogical potential of comedy for disrupting heteronormativity in education and other spaces, as well as the role of religious education in challenging political and social divisions.  

More widely, my general scholarly contributions include:

• Editorial Board member: Ethics and Education, Religion and Education, Irish Educational Studies (2023-Present).
• Peer Review Service: Journal of Philosophy of Education, Ethics and Education, Religion and Education, Critical Studies in Education, Irish Educational Studies, British Journal of Educational Studies, Sex Education.
• Elected Advisory Board Member: International Network of Philosophers of Education (2023-2026). In this role, I focused on organizing the network’s various seminar series, conferences, and colloquia. 
   

I have supervised and examined PhD and M.Res. students in the areas of LGBTQ+ inclusion in education, sexuality education, religion and education, and philosophy of education. I warmly welcome inquiries in these areas. 

Prior to joining LJMU, I held research and academic positions at Maynooth University, Technological University Dublin, and Edge Hill University.
