My academic approach is underpinned by collaborations with scholarly organisations, public, industry, third sector and policy groups; this serves to bring my research expertise into contemporary journalism practice. I am founding chair of the Local and Community Media Section of MeCCSA, which works to advance scholarship in the area. I am a member of Women in Journalism and am also a member of the Oral History Society and have worked with colleagues to found the Press and Journalism Special Interest Group to promote historical approaches to journalism practice. I serve as a member of the Regulatory Committee for the independent press monitor Impress and I am a member of the Research Board for the Public Interest News Foundation. I also act as a judge for the annual Regional Press Awards.
