BIOGRAPHY
Steve began his career at Liverpool John Moores University in 2001 as an IT Technical Officer, eventually rising to the role of Senior IT Technical Officer in 2008. During this period, he gained extensive experience supporting teaching, research, and enterprise computing infrastructure across the institution. To complement this hands-on experience, he earned Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credentials in 2000 and 2004, demonstrating a high level of professional expertise in network infrastructure and systems administration.
Parallel to his professional progression, Steve achieved a series of academic milestones at Liverpool John Moores University. He graduated with a degree in Information Systems in 2008, followed by a Master’s degree with distinction in Mobile and Wireless Communications in 2011. In 2024, he completed his PhD in Artificial Intelligence; his doctoral thesis, Detection of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea using Features Extracted from Segmented Time-Series ECG Signals with a One Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network, focused on the cutting-edge application of deep learning techniques to biomedical signal analysis.
Currently, Steve serves as a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at LJMU. His research interests encompass artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and the application of intelligent systems to complex, real-world problems. He frequently collaborates with colleagues across the university on diverse research publications and academic projects. As part of his ongoing commitment to excellence in pedagogy, he is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCert).
