Dr M Abdellatif obtained her BSc (Hon.) in Civil Engineering from the University of Khartoum (Sudan) and MSc in Water Resources. In between the two degrees she was granted a scholarship from the IHE to study Postgraduate Diploma in Hydraulic Engineering for River Basin in Egypt. She continued her academic journey and obtained her PhD degree in Environmental Modelling from Liverpool John Moores University in 2013.

Besides pursuing her academic training in Sudan, Dr M Abdellatif also worked as a teaching assistant/lecturer, delivering Civil Engineering modules to undergraduate students in Sudan. She engaged with the UNESO Chair in Water Resources (Sudan) as a contract researcher and involved in numerous projects related to water and river management. Following completion of her PhD she join LJMU as postdoctoral researcher at the Low Carbon Hub to provide services and research work to SMEs in Merseyside to help them implementing low carbon technologies and sustainable solutions for their engineering problems.

Currently she teaching different modules in the field of Water and Sustainability.
She has published widely in the area of climate change and hydrology, reaching over 70 peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, book chapters and book.

Dr Noura Abdi is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Cyber Security at Liverpool John Moores University,  with a strong academic and research background in cyber security and human-computer interaction (HCI). She holds a PhD in Usable Security and Privacy from King’s College London, where her research focused on the intersection of cyber security, privacy and user-centred design, particularly in the context of smart home technologies.

With substantial experience in both teaching and research, she has made significant contributions to the field of cyber security and Human-Computer Interaction, with internationally recognised publications in leading conferences and journals such as USENIX Security (SOUPS), CHI, and CSCW. 

Alongside her research, Dr Abdi is passionate about teaching and has developed and delivered modules on cyber security , artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is a Fellow of Advance HE, reflecting her commitment to excellence in higher education and her ongoing dedication to enhancing student learning and engagement.

Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science & Mathematics at Liverpool John Moores University. Holds a PhD in Machine Learning from LJMU, a Master’s Degree in Computing and Information Systems from LJMU, and an undergraduate Degree in Computer Science from Baghdad Technology University. Previously, I worked for five years as a Computer Scientist in the industry before pursuing a career in academia. I have been working as a lecturer and senior lecturer at LJMU since 2022. 

My interests are in how environmental change influences the ecology, behaviour and conservation of species and how they adapt to such change. I completed my PhD at Liverpool John Moores University where I conducted research into the influence of forest structure upon orangutan nest ecology and densities in the lowland forests of North Sumatra. Much of the focus of my career and education has been upon field biology and conservation having conducted field research and field courses in the UK, South Africa, Kenya, Borneo, Sumatra and Peru. I have worked in industry as well as academia having worked as an ecological consultant with The Environment Partnership and in international conservation during my role with Chester Zoo and the IUCN SSC Asian Wild Cattle Specialist Group. This experience I hope to bring to my teaching and to be able to support students with career advice for working in these fields. Currently I am working on the conservation of Japanese Giant Salamanders and their river homes in Tottori Prefecture in Japan in collaboration with Sustainable Daisen an NGO in Japan and Prof Amael Borzee of Nanjing Forestry University. I am also a member of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group and East Asian Salamander Task Force.  

Nick Adamson is a Learning Technologist in the Teaching & Learning Academy at Liverpool John Moores University. The Academy provides general oversight of academic practice across the institution, spanning both face-to-face and technology-enhanced learning. Its core functions include professional development, curriculum enhancement, technology integration, and the development of strategy, policy, and process to support high-quality learning and teaching.

In his role, Nick supports the effective use of the university’s digital learning environment, with particular focus on Canvas and associated tools such as Panopto. He delivers individual and group training to academic staff to ensure online learning experiences are engaging, pedagogically sound, and aligned with institutional goals. He also plays a supporting role in delivering a teaching development programme aimed at postgraduate researchers and staff with emerging teaching responsibilities.

Prior to this, Nick worked as a Systems Officer in Library Services at LJMU, where he was responsible for the administration of the Library Management System and led on several digital infrastructure projects, including the implementation of RFID and the development of custom reporting systems using Oracle SQL and SharePoint. His background in system development, web technologies, and digital learning tools gives him a holistic understanding of both the technical and pedagogical dimensions of academic practice.

A former ISTAR and electronic surveillence operative in the Royal Artillery; educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Gained a BA (HONS) at LJMU in History and Politics and an MA in International relations and Security from the University of Liverpool.
